I agree with you Anja, and I certainly am not a huge fan of the notion of highly-centralized power structures holding sway over consumer/user data markets.

That said, the monopolies essentially already exist, and users are happy to go with them so long as they provide a set of outcomes that are better, faster, cheaper, or more convenient than before.

We’ve seen some resistance in the form of Linux/Unix users in the personal computing world, but any resistance to invasive technology will almost certainly be the exception rather than the rule.

We can reasonably assume this to be the case as well, if for no other reason than it has happened with such alarming regularity and frequency with essentially all other forms of technology leading up to this point.

That being said, there is an alternative to this outcome which involves breaking up big tech companies in order to oxygenate the market, but I’m not sure how well it will work in practice.
