In our industry, through both the templatification of design works, and the overall zeitgeist of absolute minimalism, we have arrived at designs that essentially all look like this:
It is my humble opinion that this is not only unacceptable, but completely avoidable using basic techniques that are over two decades old, which no modern bootcamps or coursework, even in a collegiate setting, seem to be bothered to teach burgeoning designers.
To that end, today I will be showing you how to leverage some old-school techniques with modern tooling to create designs that stand out from the crowd.
#1. Amorphous shadows
First and foremost, if you want to make your designs look a little nicer, add some amorphous shadows.
This is as easy as blurring some shapes, throwing them into the background, and fading them out.
